Liverpool duo King Hannah have announced their second album, which is titled Big Swimmer and will be out May 31 via City Slang. The album was produced by Ali Chant (Aldous Harding, PJ Harvey) and the songs were inspired by the band’s travels around the world touring for their great 2022 debut. “Because if you’re visiting a different country, it’s more like you’re witnessing someone’s life,” says singer/guitarist Hannah Merrick.

The first single from Big Swimmer is its title track, one of two songs on the album to feature backing vocals from Sharon Van Etten. This song may have fans of King Hannah’s debut and 2019 mini-album double checking to make sure they’re listening to right song, as most of the band’s signatures are not here, with Merrick’s voice sounding more pure and vulnerable than we’ve previously heard, and not a lot of reverb. She also sounds great harmonizing with SVE.

“I think Sharon just remembers what it’s like to be a new artist,” lead guitarist Craig Whittle says of her contribution here. “She’s made us think about how we move through the world, how we treat people.” You can watch the video for Big Swimmer below.

No word on tour dates, so stay tuned. Check out Big Swimmer‘s album art and tracklist below.
